About NIFTi
NIFTi is about human-robot cooperation. About teams of robots and humans doing tasks together, interacting together to try and reach a shared goal. NIFTi looks at how the robot could bear the human in mind. Literally. When determining what to do or say next in human-robot interaction; when, and how. NIFTi puts the human factor into cognitive robots, and human-robot team interaction in particular.   Each year, NIFTi evaluates its systems together with several USAR organizations. Rescue personnel teams up with NIFTi robots to carry out realistic missions, in real-life training areas.

Smart questions context-dependent mobile information exchange for military operations

In: Proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Knowledge and Smart Technology.

During military missions, mobile devices allow information exchange between distributed groups of soldiers. As the context of use changes frequently and more (unstructured) information becomes available during missions, the challenge is to ensure that the right information reaches the right recipients at the right moment. This paper presents the concept of Smart Questions, a mobile, context-dependent information exchange system that matches information elements (answers) to information needs (questions). We define three use cases for this concept within the military domain: `Soldier as sensor', `Reach back' and `Peer-to-peer'. Military end-users evaluated potential benefits of each use case for (future) military operations.
